Medical & Surgical Retina
Expert care for the delicate light-sensing layer at the back of your eye, where many sight-threatening conditions begin.
A closer look at your care.
The retina is the thin, light-sensitive layer lining the back of the eye, and the macula at its centre gives you the sharp, detailed vision you use to read and recognise faces. Problems here, from diabetic damage and macular degeneration to retinal tears and detachment, can threaten sight quickly, so timely diagnosis matters.
We assess the retina with detailed imaging, including OCT cross-sectional scans, and manage a wide range of conditions medically and, where appropriate, with surgical referral and follow-up, working to preserve as much vision as possible.

Questions, answered.
OCT is a quick, painless scan that produces detailed cross-sections of the retina. It lets us detect and track macular and retinal conditions with great precision.
A few floaters are common, but a sudden increase, especially with flashes or a shadow, can signal a retinal tear or detachment and should be checked urgently.
High blood sugar can damage the tiny retinal blood vessels, sometimes long before vision changes. Regular dilated screening catches this early, when treatment works best.
