Eye care close to Kolathur
Many of our patients make the drive from Kolathur to Aadithya Eye Care in Perambur because the alternative, heading to a large general hospital, means longer waits, impersonal care and diagnostics that take days. We're about twenty minutes away and can usually see you the same week.
A neighbourhood that's grown up fast
Kolathur has changed considerably over the past decade. What was once a quieter outer suburb of north Chennai has grown into a busy residential area with apartment complexes, schools and a working population that skews younger than many surrounding neighbourhoods. That demographic shift has brought its own eye health patterns.
Screen time is high, most households have at least two earning members working in IT or clerical roles, and children spend long hours studying. Myopia is progressing earlier and faster in this population than it did a generation ago. At the same time, the area has an older resident base in its original housing, where conditions like cataract and age-related macular change are common. The two populations need different kinds of care, and we see both regularly.
When Kolathur patients look for specialist eye care, the closest major option has typically meant travelling further, waiting longer and dealing with a hospital system built around volume. The drive to Perambur is a different experience, smaller, familiar, with direct access to the specialist at every visit.

Dr Vasantha Gowri, MBBS, DO (Ophthalmology), FICO (UK), FRCS (Glasgow)
Dr Vasantha Gowri has been in full-time ophthalmology practice for over 25 years, and founded Aadithya Eye Care in Perambur in 1999. Patients from Kolathur and across north Chennai have been coming to her for cataract surgery, glaucoma management and paediatric eye care for over two decades.
Her approach is consistent regardless of how far patients have travelled: a thorough examination first, a clear explanation of what's found, and a treatment plan that fits the patient's situation, not just the diagnosis. If surgery isn't needed, she'll say so.
