She is the kind of doctor you wish all doctors were. She looked at my mother's cataract carefully, explained everything in Tamil and made her feel at ease before the surgery. My mother was reading the newspaper again within a week.
Dr Vasantha
Gowri S
MBBS · DO (Ophthalmology) · FICO (UK) · FRCS (Glasgow) · Eye Surgeon · Aadithya Eye Care, Chennai
Dr Vasantha Gowri S founded Aadithya Eye Care in 1999 with one simple goal: to give the people of Perambur access to thorough, honest eye care without having to travel across the city to find it.
She completed her MBBS at Medical College, Calcutta University, before returning to Chennai to earn her Diploma in Ophthalmology from Madras Medical College. The training there shaped the clinical discipline and surgical grounding that has guided her practice ever since.
Over 25 years in active practice, she has treated patients at every stage of life. From infants seen for congenital eye conditions and children needing their first pair of glasses, to adults dealing with glaucoma or diabetic retinal changes and seniors undergoing cataract surgery, the range of her clinical work has been genuinely wide.
What patients consistently describe is a doctor who gives the visit time, listens carefully to what is worrying them, and explains the findings in plain language before suggesting any next step. That consistency over 25 years is what has kept families coming back and recommending Aadithya Eye Care to others.
Today the hospital sees patients across north Chennai, but the approach has not changed since the doors opened in 1999. Dr Gowri remains the clinician her patients see, the one who plans their care and stays with them through it.
Alongside general ophthalmology, she takes a special interest in dry eye care and vision therapy, two areas where patient, structured, non-surgical treatment can make a real difference to comfort and everyday vision.
Her commitment to eye health also reaches well beyond the clinic. Through community initiatives such as Yuva Darshan and Yuva Swasthya, she supports vision screening and health awareness for young people across the region.

Dr Vasantha Gowri S, Founder, Aadithya Eye Care
Listen first
Every visit starts with the patient speaking and the doctor listening. What a person describes about their eyes often points to as much as the instruments do.
Explain clearly
Findings are shown and explained in plain language before anything else is discussed. A patient who understands their condition makes better decisions about their care.
Be honest
If the right answer is to wait and review, that is the advice given. The trust between doctor and patient takes time to build and it starts with being willing to say not yet.
Care shaped around
the person,
not the procedure.
25 years of practice have produced an approach that is unhurried, thorough and genuinely patient-centred. Here is what you can expect when you see her.
No rush
Each appointment is given the time it needs. There is no pressure to move on before your questions have been answered.
A thorough examination every time
Slit-lamp assessment, pressure check and dilated fundus view where needed. Nothing important is skipped to save time.
Plain-language explanations
Findings are shown to you and explained in the language you are comfortable with. You leave knowing more about your eyes than when you arrived.
A doctor who knows your history
Many patients have been coming here for decades. That long-term familiarity with your eyes is something no single visit can replace.

What patients say about
Dr Vasantha Gowri.
Another clinic told me I needed glaucoma surgery immediately. Dr Gowri re-examined me properly and explained that drops alone were enough at this stage. Her honesty saved me from an operation I did not need.
My son has had a squint since he was two and Dr Gowri has been seeing him patiently for years. She speaks to him directly, not just to us, and the progress has been real. We would not go anywhere else.
See Dr Vasantha Gowri for your eyes.
